The big three

Madison Witches Ride, Sunday, Oct. 18 (past). Witches rode, rolled and strolled along Garner Street near Home Place Park throwing candy to children, with food trucks, music and activities after the 3 p.m. ride until 5 p.m. Our Witches Ride page will carry the 2027 date. It raises money for the Madison Arts Alliance and is organized by Madison Visionary Partners. It is on the city calendar for the same hours.

Trail of Treats, Thursday, Oct. 22 (past). The city’s free, inclusive Halloween night moved this year from its old site to the James Clemens High School football field, because last year’s turnout left too little room, City of Madison Parks and Recreation said. Families walked the track visiting local businesses and community groups for treats.

Halloween at Toyota Field, Saturday, Oct. 31. The Rocket City Trash Pandas’ Fall Festival starts at 5 p.m. with trick-or-treating around the concourse, character appearances, photo spots, face painting and inflatables, then a showing of Casper on the videoboard at 6:30 p.m., the team’s special events page says. Tickets are sold through the team’s ticket link on that page. The ballpark is at 500 Trash Panda Way, off I-565 at Exit 10 (Town Madison Boulevard). It is cashless, and only one small clear bag per fan is allowed, with exceptions for diaper bags and medical needs, under the team’s ballpark guide.

Celebrate Madison, Thursday, Oct. 29. Two nights before Halloween, Toyota Field hosts Celebrate Madison from 6 p.m., a free community evening of entertainment, activities, local vendors and food, the Trash Pandas’ special events page says.

Halloween morning downtown

Main Street Madison’s first Downtown Fall Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Home Place Park, 100 Shorter St., with 1980s-style carnival games, cakewalks, a bounce house and food trucks. Admission is free, according to Main Street Madison. Main Street Madison publishes a downtown parking map.

At the library and church

  • The Monster Squad (1987), Thursday, Oct. 22 (past). Part of the Madison Public Library’s MAD Movie-A-Thon-O-Rama series, shown in Auditorium 1. The film is rated PG-13, the library says.
  • Baby’s First Halloween Rave, Thursday, Oct. 29. A costume dance party with “toddler-techno beats” in Auditoriums 1 and 2 for children 5 and under. The library warns of loud music and flashing lights throughout and suggests morning story times instead for children who would not enjoy that. Questions: madison@hmcpl.org or 256-461-0046.
  • Outdoor Worship and Trunk or Treat, Sunday, Oct. 25. In the back parking lot of Madison Church of Christ, 556 Hughes Road, with inflatables, from 5 to 8 p.m., on the church calendar. Church office: 256-772-3911.

Other churches and businesses hold trunk-or-treats each year; we list one here only once the organizer posts the date on its own website.
